Shadowing with Dr. Selvam demonstrates what it might actually look like when using ISP™ in clinical practice with your clients. See how ISP helps to guide clients through deeper emotional work, with safety and efficient resolution.
Raja unpacks each demo in terms of the important ISP interventions used, including a variety of effective somatic techniques to work with all of our four bodies that contribute to our experience and its regulation.
Each volunteer later sent in a reflection on the changes they have experienced since the session. They kindly gave permission for their update to be shared.
The somatic expansion and regulation techniques used during the demonstrations are easy to learn. Integral Somatic Psychology (ISP) offers many such easy-to-use gross body, subtle body, and collective body somatic techniques that can help you find and go deeper into emotional experiences, with confidence, to safely resolve your clients’ symptoms faster.

Raja unpacks a clinical demonstration he did with Margit to help her resolve a very traumatic loss and separation from when she was 17 year old, that was triggered by a recent separation.
I can barely explain what’s happening internally in my body. It is as if something is coming together, becoming more whole. I suddenly understand the word “healing” too. Parts of me are coming together, becoming whole, thus healed. I’m calmer, fuller, I feel calmer, more self-satisfied, more confident, and fulfilled. The latter fits best. I feel more fulfilled.
And this while I’m going through a very turbulent and uncertain time. But there’s been a major internal shift in relation to it too: I’m no longer afraid of being alone. That existential fear has given way to a deep trust, and it feels grounded and solid in my pelvis.
And finally, there’s been a major shift in my connection with my parents. Last weekend, perhaps for the first time in 30 years, I visited them alone. And I felt I could see my mother. I could feel her love for me without melting away. I could even give her a hug. And now, suddenly, I saw her and was interested in her. Empathy is a strong word, but there’s a connection, and it feels warm and connected to me.
Raja unpacks a clinical demonstration with Eyal to access and work through deep grief from multiple losses from the events of October 7 in Israel. The grief had been frozen for over two years.
“Since the session, I have experienced waves of sadness, moving between feeling normal and then feeling quite sad again.
I feel that I am now able to think of the events of October 7th with more empathy, rather than approaching them solely from an intellectual perspective. It is what I wanted, but it is not pleasant.
Generally, I notice that my reactions to emotional stress have “slowed down.” For example, arguments with my teenage son that might have escalated into a fight now develop more slowly, resulting in frustration and disappointment rather than anger and rage.
No doubt, I have access to much more complex feelings now, something I was missing.
It has also opened some new fields to explore with my therapist.
Thank you!”
Raja unpacks the clinical demonstration he did with Kristin, a client with severe complex trauma involving grief and shock and acute psychophysiological symptoms (syndromes) from three recent losses.
I recently experienced ISP’s power firsthand. My best friend and both of my cats died within days of each other. The stress of these events was aggravating my diabetes. No matter what I did (exercising, low carbs, fasting, etc.), my glucose stayed elevated. (I’m supposed to keep it below 125 mg/dl, and mine was running between 200 -300 mg/dl). I also began to experience numbness in my arms from the elbows down. Two months ago, my doctor felt like she had no choice but to double the dosage of my medication. Nothing changed.
It wasn’t until I had an ISP session that my glucose dropped by half the following morning. Four days later, it was still in the healthy range. A lot of my numbness is gone, and I was able to visit my friend’s grave today.
Instead of feeling like my heart was going to rip in two, I could breathe. I could remember good things about the last 36 years we spent together. For the first time in months, I finally felt hopeful.
