Somatic Experiencing Professional Training Overview
Somatic Experiencing training programs are held in over 15 countries around the world including USA, Europe, UK, South America, South Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

The Somatic Experiencing Professional Training is fully accredited by the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute. Successful completion leads to certification as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP).

Participants often include psychotherapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors, social workers, physicians, nurses, cranio sacral therapists, rolfers, EMDR practitioners, acupuncturists, art therapists, massage and physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths etc.

Some of our past participants talk about the SE Professional Training…

The training is ideal if you are looking to enhance your therapeutic practice by deepening your knowledge of trauma and its effects in the body and learning practical interventions and strategies to bring trauma healing to your clients in a gentle and highly effective way.

The intensive part-time training is spread over three years. Each training year consists of two 6-day modules, providing 36 days of classroom attendance. This extended time frame allows the participant to consolidate and practice newly acquired skills on both a personal and professional level with ample opportunity for supervision and personal sessions along the way to help integrate the work.

The training offers a comprehensive and in-depth understanding and appreciation of the neurophysiology of trauma theory and trauma healing principles. Participants will gain, amongst other topics, a firm grounding in the knowledge of innate survival responses, resourcing, the Polyvagal Theory of Stephen Porges, coupling dynamics and working with the ‘felt sense’ of the body.

The participant will develop skills of well-paced dialogue, being in the resonance with the client, gentle psychotherapeutic and body-oriented interventions that work directly with the neurophysiology of the body plus supportive touch work. The many practical exercises enable the participant to safely and effectively apply the knowledge within a clinical context.

These practical skills will be enhanced by the participant’s own explorations and experience of the work, supported by supervision from SE practitioners approved by the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute. Skills and concepts learned in each module can be applied immediately to your professional practice.

All participants should be aware that this training is designed to train professionals who are already qualified in some form of therapeutic modality to support clients re-negotiate trauma or high anxiety states, versus being a personal self-help course. However, due to the depth of the work and the practical nature of the training, we do advise participants that personal traumas may be triggered during the training, thus the experience may also become an integrative process for your own personal development. Personal SE sessions from the SEP assistants are available during the training week but further outside support may be required between modules.
